Blogger Resources

”Be miserable. Or motivate yourself. Whatever has to be done, it’s always your choice.”
– Wayne Dyer

If you have been thinking about starting a blog then today may be the day.

For me, it’s the best thing ever happened to me. I was an isolated depressed soul with no family or friends around to help me. That’s when I believe I was inspired to start a blog. Starting, was not an easy task given I have never done any computer class or digital marketing classes which both is a good talent if you want to be a successful blogger.

Starting, was not an easy task given I no computer or digital marketing skills which both is a good talent to be a successful blogger.

However, for me as the new mum, lost in the busy life with kids and house work blogging was about tapping into the creativity that was buried inside me.

I didn’t have a good computer, desk or photo studio. I was cooking with the basic ingredients I could afford to feed my family. But none of that mattered. I just wanted to do something. I had an old Samsung phone that I used to take pictures with.  I started with a free website that no one was even reading. It was myself, my husband and my friend Zaneta reading the blog every few months.  But I continued searching deeper within me.

You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”
– Martin Luther King, Jr.

I started liking the feel when hitting the publish button every few days, sometimes months. But even that didn’t matter, it wasn’t about the glory, it was about doing whatever I could on that given day.

I feel so proud of where I came today. From doesn’t matter to it matters. Through this recipe blog, I have helped so many people by inspiring them with healthy homemade recipes. I have even inspired talented bloggers to take drastic life changing decisions. When I started I didn’t realise I would make a difference to so many people but I guess everyone has something to bring to this universe. When I started I didn’t realise I would make a difference to so many people but I guess everyone has something to bring to this universe. I have met with people and celebrities I never imagined of meeting. I collaborated with big companies and featured on several Irish Magazines. Did I dream all that? NO, not in a million years. I was just doing what was important to nurture myself.  Do I dream bigger today? I certainly do!

So having said all that I have compiled a list of Blogger Resource Material that may help you start your new blog. If you have been thinking then don’t postpone it for tomorrow. Sign up for a host and start building your website today!

Here are a few of my favourite services I use today 16/07/17:

  1. Start with a reliable Web Host, I use *Siteground

Web Hosting

Why *Siteground? Because after using Weebly, wordpress.com and Bluehost, I have seen a peak on my page views literally overnight! Siteground is my favourite web host.

They take care of my websites and my email services. What I love about *Siteground is that their customer support is brilliant. A non-tech person like me, whenever I’ve had questions or issues, I just jump on their chat box, and my problem is resolved within minutes.

  • Their WordPress hosting plans are also very affordable, and their web service speed is fast. I highly recommend them. Check out their three different WordPress Hosting Plans.
  • Free domain name, site building tools and pre-installed CMS’s
  •  Tonnes of free extras to start & grow your site with ease
*SiteGround takes care of your site speed & performance for you
  • Free migration – no hassle or costs, SiteGround does it all
Better website performance with advanced speed-boosting technologies Free Let’s Encrypt SSL certificates
  •  Free Let’s Encrypt SSL certificates
  • Excellent WordPress tools – WP-CLI, staging, caching, auto-updates
  • Officially recommended by WordPress.org
2. WordPress Themes

Now it’s time to make the website Pretty! Thankfully, adding a theme makes it quite easy to build.

Genesis Framework is the way to go if you want a solid and secure website and it also runs efficiently.  I run Genesis on this site with a custom child theme. Building the sidebars becomes less difficult.

Foodie Pro is my favourite to date it’s sleek with a minimalist approach and clean design, but she sure packs a punch when it comes to features. Foodie Pro is the most flexible Genesis Theme with a minimalist style and plenty of colour and typography options.

3. WordPress Plugins

The availability of third-party plugins is one of the biggest advantages of using a WordPress site unlike the free version wordpress.com or Weebly.

WordPress SEO: There are two  things I like about this plugin:
1. It creates a sitemap (a list of everything on your site) that Google likes; and

2. It gives you the power to improve SEO data. SEO doesn’t matter at all if your content isn’t good, but it can be effective if you can more precisely define your content for browsers that might find your site via search.

MailChimp: This is the standard email marketing tool to have with an easy RSS email feature.

Yummly Rich Recipes: the Yummly rich plugin is an easy recipe builder with a perfect print view for readers and the ability to add a copyright statement or URL.

Google Analytics : The free tool for tracking website traffic and stats.

4 Photography Equipment

As you scroll down to my oldest blog posts, you will find some extra blurry images with no proper lighting and fancy equipment. It took me 3 years to build my arsenal so whatever equipment you see below you don’t have to get them all. I am sure there is better equipment out there but these are the ones I use and don’t have any problem with it so far.

When it comes to blogging honestly the least you have the better. There are equipment I bought over the years that I am not even sharing here because I don’t really use them. Don’t go crazy over buying these, save and buy one equipment at a time.  Treat yourself on my birthdays or Christmas as I do.

So my favourite is my iPhone 6 , so many pictures o this site are with my iPhone and I find it so practical and quick and if you are not that fussy with the images then it does a fair job.

Then, of course, my second favourite is my softbox which is important when living in Ireland where you can’t rely on natural light too much.

This Food styling and Photography book gave me the confidence to try new styles. I haven’t touched it for the last 2 years but it did help me at the start. They also have a Kindle version now!

Then is my  Nikon DSLR which I am very proud of investing into. I wish I used it more often though. Perhaps when I am not pushing the buggy anymore 🙂

Oh yes! This remote was such a fantastic add on as I can get very shaky hands. If you don’t have it, get it now! like I mean now!

I can give suggestion all day but if you don’t sign up for a host and start building your site today, then it’s not going to happen.  Start from this and be consistent in writing and researching.  You will learn the rest eventually. Don’t worry about the growth just yet. Worry about building the site.

I hope this post inspired you today. Now I would love to hear from you. Do you have a goal? What is the one thing you are taking from this blog resource post?
