Recently I lost my grand-father who was suffering with cancer. He was a man whom I respected and loved. During the time that he was in the hospital in Mauritius I couldn’t help but feel helpless, I wasn’t there to help him or support my family. I’ve also lost my father and other dear ones to cancer, all this makes me more de-determined to keep studying and sharing healthy recipes to promote and encourage healthy lifestyle. I want for everybody to learn to eat the way we are supposed to eat.
The current healthy eating movement for a lot of people may just be the current fashionable fad for vanity or weight-loss purposes but eating healthy is what we are supposed to do. Why do I call this smoothie ‘Anti-Cancer’? Eating produce from the ground, from plants, provides us with plenty of antioxidants to protect us from free radicals and inflammation that can lead to cancer and other serious diseases.
I would like to know what you do to care for your body and mind daily, tell us your secrets! I especially love hearing stories of what our elders put their good health and long life down to. My husband’s great Aunt lived to a ripe old age and was extremely sharp and healthy to the end. Anyone who speaks of her refers to her as a wise woman. She religiously ate a clove of garlic every day of her life and attributed a lot of her good health to this fact. I’d also like to hear from you if you think you might be in need of a little help, jump to the work with me page, choose one of the treatments, send me an email and we’ll work something out together.
One way I try to look after myself is by adding 1 or 2 green smoothies to my diet every day. This way I can make sure I get some of the vibrant nutrients that the body needs. Pick 1 superfood and work the flavours you like around it. Today my superfood is kale. Kale’s nutrient richness stands out in three particular areas: (1) antioxidant nutrients, (2) anti-inflammatory nutrients, and (3) anti-cancer nutrients in the form of glucosinolates.
Without sufficient intake of antioxidants, our oxygen metabolism can become compromised and we can experience a metabolic problem called “oxidative stress.” Oxidative stress and chronic inflammation and the combination of these metabolic problems are risk factors for the development of cancer. We’ve seen research studies into 5 specific types of cancer including bladder cancer, breast cancer, colon cancer, ovarian cancer, and prostate cancer and intake of cruciferous vegetables (specifically including kale). As a group, these studies definitely show cancer preventive benefits from kale intake, and in some cases, treatment benefits as well.
